Marstrand

The town of Marstrand is split into two parts, one being on a small island accessible by ferry. The hotel is located next to the ferry terminal,  at the outermost quay before the sea takes over. All year round you will find quality of life á la Swedish west coast with 98 rooms decorated in a Scandinavian style, mouth-watering food in the onsite restaurant, Ottos Kök, a salty SPA and spellbinding nature. Observe the challenges of boating and with something refreshing in your glass, evening sun and lukewarm winds it is easy to just be.

Marstrands Havshotell is located on Koön, right by the ferry terminal to Marstrandsön – easy to get to both by car and public transport.

By air
The nearest international airport is Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (GOT). From the airport, take the airport bus (Flygbussarna) or a taxi to Gothenburg Central Station (approx. 25–30 minutes). From there, continue to Marstrand by bus as described below. Taxis and car rental are also available at the airport if you prefer to drive directly to the hotel (approx. 1 hour).

By car
From Gothenburg, drive the E6 north towards Kungälv. Take exit 86 (Kareby/Marstrand) and follow the signs for Marstrand. When you arrive at Koön, follow the signs for Marstrand's ferry terminal – Marstrands Havshotell is located right by the water, just before the ferry terminal. Parking is available at the hotel. 

Uber in Gothenburg
Uber is commonly used in Gothenburg, although public transport is still the main way that many people get around the city. Through the Uber app, you can request a ride when you need one or book a journey in advance. Fares can vary depending on demand, traffic and the type of vehicle selected. The app will show an estimated fare before you confirm your journey.

By public transport
Please note that trains are no longer an option for public transport due to engineering works.

Airport to Gothenburg City Centre:
Gothenburg Landvetter Airport is located approximately 15 miles from Gothenburg city centre. The airport bus is a convenient and recommended way to travel into the city, with frequent services throughout the day. 

VY Flygbussarna operates direct buses between Landvetter Airport and Gothenburg city centre. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes, with buses departing directly from outside the airport terminal and arriving at Gothenburg Central Bus Station. The airport bus departs every 15-20 minutes and offers free WiFi.

A single ticket costs around 129 SEK, whilst a return ticket is 209 SEK. Tickets can be purchased from the driver, via the app or from a kiosk located in the airport. Please note that payments are by card only.

Tickets are flexible and valid for travel within three months of the date of purchase. Once a ticket has been used, it is no longer valid. Tickets are non-refundable.

Gothenburg City Centre to Marstrands Havshotell:
The easiest way to travel from Gothenburg city centre to Marstrand Havshotell is by public bus via Ytterby. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and requires a change of bus in Ytterby. Gothenburg is within Zone A, while Marstrand is in Zone B, so you will need a ticket covering both zones. A single journey ticket costs approximately 76 SEK. Tickets can be purchased conveniently using the Västtrafik To Go app, which allows you to buy your ticket before travelling. For the latest bus times, routes and ticket information, please check the Västtrafik website or app before travelling, as timetables may change.

Step 1: Gothenburg Central Bus Station
The buses to Marstrand depart from Gothenburg Central Bus Station, which is located next to the railway station (There will be no train connections to Marstrand at the time of PSDI 2026 due to engineering works). This is the same bus station used by the airport buses.

Västtrafik operates the public transport network throughout Västra Götaland, including services between Gothenburg and Marstrand. Take the 38A bus from Gothenburg Central Bus Station to arrive in Ytterby.

The Västtrafik ticket office is located within the covered area of the central bus station, on the right-hand side just before you enter the railway station area.

Step 2: Travel via Ytterby
Once you arrive to Ytterby, you will need to change onto a connecting bus towards Marstrand ferry terminal (Marstrand färjeläge). Take the 302 bus to get to the Marstrand Ferry Terminal.

The total journey from Gothenburg to Marstrand takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

From the Marstrand ferry terminal, Marstrand Havshotell is located a short distance away.

Taxis
Taxis are available in Gothenburg, although they can be more expensive than public transport.

Gothenberg taxis offer a fixed-price option called “Fastpris” for journeys into the city. This is a convenient option and allows you to know the cost of your journey in advance. When booking or getting into a taxi, ask for “Fastpris” and provide your destination address. The driver will then confirm the fixed fare before you travel.
